DIG stands for Durham Integrated Growers. DIG is a non profit community group representing Durham Region.
We seek to enhance our communities’ access to healthy food and food security. DIG brings individuals and organizations together that are involved in community gardens and/or food related projects to educate, promote, and facilitate sustainable food production and distribution. Listed below is our constitution which guides DIG’s direction.

DIG brings together individuals and organizations that are involved in community gardens and/or food related projects.

Objectives
• Support membership needs through access to information and information sharing
• Support membership by providing technical and development assistance
• Support membership by assisting with funding exploration and procurement
• Support membership by promoting and supporting potential partnerships
• Support membership by advocating and educating about DIG mission and mandate
Membership
Membership is voluntary and open to all local individuals and organizations that agree with the DIG vision, mission, mandate and objectives, and are willing to actively participate. Member rights and responsibilities are:
1. Rights
• Participate in DIG meetings, and decisions;
• Information and sharing DIG resources and opportunities.
2. Responsibilities
• A paid annual membership fee of $10 for individuals, $20 for Organizations, or Pay What You Can (PWYC)
• Regular participation in the general membership meetings and activities
Note: Each paid membership is entitled to one vote, whether it is an individual person or an organization
Meetings
DIG general membership meetings will take place not less than 2 times per year at times and locations determined and agreed upon by the DIG Board. One of these meetings will include the DIG official Fall Annual General Meeting. The DIG Board will meet not less than 8 times per year, at times and locations to be determined by the members of the DIG Board.
Decision Making
DIG will strive for consensus, but where after a reasonable amount of time, consensus is not possible, then decision making will be made by an absolute majority (50% +1) of the members present.
Quorum
A quorum at a membership meeting shall be 50%+1 of the paid membership. A quorum of the Board shall be 50%+1 of the Board.
Governance
DIG will be governed by the membership attending meetings and will follow democratically recognized agreeable procedures to conduct their business. The DIG membership will elect a Board to:
• Uphold the DIG’s vision, mission, mandate, and objectives
• Assist in the coordination of DIG activities
• Represent the DIG at public forums.
The DIG Board will be elected and/or confirmed by the membership assembly for two and three year periods. The DIG membership has the power to revoke and/or change the Board functions and/or mandate by the majority of its members at a duly called membership meeting. The Board has the power to appoint an individual member to temporarily fill a vacated position; this same position will be up for election at the next membership meeting.
The Board will include a minimum of 6 members, to hold the following positions:
• Board Chair – overall executive coordination and public relations
• Communication Chair – overall communication strategies and media
• Finance Chair – overall financial and resources management
• Membership Chair – overall membership development
• Education Chair – overall technical assistance and skills development
• Recording Secretary – record and distribute minutes and correspondence and maintain documentation
The Board will elect a Vice-Chair from the members of the Board
