Black Duck Wild Rice Tour

Wild rice (“manomin”) is a traditional First Nations food that grows in some Ontario lakes. Over time, other uses of the lakes have threatened the rice beds but James Whetung, of Black Duck Wild Rice, has been reintroducing it locally. The event will include traditional teachings, rice harvesting by canoe, and then traditional means of processing the rice (including roasting it over a fire, dancing on the rice to remove the chaff, and winnowing it).
